Bob Durig Mo-Kan Semis

Game 4: Semi-Finals of the Bob Durig Mo-Kan (4-0-0) 30 March Vs. Pembroke Hill (7-1) Girls' Season Stats I believe this served as our first ever girls' soccer match against Pembroke Hill, and it came in the Semi-finals of the Bob Durig Mo-Kan. And the conditions of tonight's match rivaled opening night in awfulness. Maybe not quite as bad, but close. It was our most dominant match. We had 19 shots on goal to Pembroke's two, and those two both came on direct kicks late in the second half. It was 4-0 at half, with Pembroke statless. Watts doffed the hat that contained a bend-it-in corner, a dribble-and-fire, and a drive off a deflected shot on the corner that she had started.  Pembroke must specialize in direct kicks as two different girls both hit missiles.   The entire roster played and played a lot.  We have earned the opportunity to play for the title, as we will have the chance to win our 3rd straight Mo-Kan title if we can get the Friday night win over SM East who d...

Bob Durig MoKan 2022 Begins

Game 3: (3-0-0) Vs. Sion at 7:30 in first round of Bob Durig Mo-Kan (5-1) Girls' Season Stats We were the anomaly for the first day of the Bob Durig Mo-Kan, as we were the only winning team to score more than one goal in regulation. We put in five goals, with senior, Abby Hansen doffing the hat, junior, Sydney Watts adding 2 assists. Traditionally, we have frequently opened the tournament against Sion. And we have had some great matches against them.  The Storm kept us out of the net for awhile. In fact, it was only 1-0 at the half. But we came out on a mission the second half quickly to spread that lead to 4. Sion did a nice job of finding the net on a follow to a shot on goal with a couple of minutes to go. But overall, they had difficulty creating many chances against the Saints pressure all over the field. The Saints advance to the semi-finals on Wednesday evening at the same time (7:30) to take on Pembroke Hill, a shootout winner over Lee's Summit North. STATS: First Half...

A Trip to Blue Valley

First Road Match, Game 2 (2-0-0) 24 March vs. Blue Valley (4-1) Girls' Season Stats Ok, it was in the high 30's, but it was a much better night, tonight than Tuesday.  We were dry, and without wind—so great for soccer.  I know the girls were expecting a tougher match tonight against the Tigers, perhaps a little worried about the Tigers' Arkansas signee, but for the most part it was all Saints. Assa did, however, offer up some nice 1-on-1 defending a few times during the match. I thought we were a little sluggish at the start of the second half, and then all of a sudden the Tigers cashed a deadball from 25-30, and the match was 2-1. That goal ignited the Blue Valley fans in the stands as we got 3-5 minutes of a pretty well-coordinated chant.  Watts' second goal ended the chanting, also allowing us to pretty much hold Blue Valley to not much the rest of the match. Freshman, Brooklyn Marn, nabbed her first and second goals of her young varsity career. She and S...

The Opener

Opening Night, Game 1 (1-0-0) 22 March vs. SM South (3-0) Girls' Season Stats First matches are not usually the finest matches the girls will play all year, but this one was pretty stout for the defending State Champs.  And when we bring in Spectrum Sports and HALO to both broadcast the match, that probably injects a bit more focus. But it was cold, rainy and windy—conditions that make the girls' performance even more impressive. And South is pretty solid throughout their lineup. They should do pretty well in the Sunflower League. Spectrum's Players of the Match for each team offer up a pretty solid summary of the match. Spectrum named junior goalkeeper, Harper Larsen, the South player of the match—and she gave up three goals. But she saved a ton to keep the match somewhat respectable. Spectrum named junior forward Sydney Watts the Saint Thomas Aquinas Player of the Match. She produced the game-winning goal 16 minutes in as she pressed the defense and won the deflect...
