A Trip to Blue Valley

First Road Match, Game 2 (2-0-0)

24 March vs. Blue Valley (4-1)

Ok, it was in the high 30's, but it was a much better night, tonight than Tuesday.  We were dry, and without wind—so great for soccer.

I know the girls were expecting a tougher match tonight against the Tigers, perhaps a little worried about the Tigers' Arkansas signee, but for the most part it was all Saints. Assa did, however, offer up some nice 1-on-1 defending a few times during the match.

I thought we were a little sluggish at the start of the second half, and then all of a sudden the Tigers cashed a deadball from 25-30, and the match was 2-1. That goal ignited the Blue Valley fans in the stands as we got 3-5 minutes of a pretty well-coordinated chant.

Watts' second goal ended the chanting, also allowing us to pretty much hold Blue Valley to not much the rest of the match.

Freshman, Brooklyn Marn, nabbed her first and second goals of her young varsity career. She and Sydney scored two a piece in the 4-1 win.

The Saints created 4 corner kicks in the first half. Those Watts services offered a couple of nice opportunities. We went corner-less in the second half.

Up next: The Bob Durig Mo-Kan. We are the defending Bob Durig Mo-Kan Champs, and if we play well, we will probably see a very good St. Teresa's team in the Championship match, but we will have to win a couple before that.

STATS:

First Half:

Saints: Shots: 7 (7) Corners: 4 (A. Hansen, J. Hansen, Marn, O'Keefe)

18:41 Watts PK (Cabantac pushes a beautiful through-ball to Sydney just inside the 18-box where she is tripped)

16:25 Marn (Watts hits the hard ground switch to Grego who pushes it forward to Marn)

Tigers: Shots: 4 (3) Corners: 0

Second Half:

Saints: Shots: 6 (3) Corners: 0

19:21 Watts (Marn drops the ball back where Sydney finds it off the defender and just buries it from 22)

16:01 Marn (A. Hansen tries to push forward when a BV midfielder clears it wide to Brooklyn who cuts the defender before striking it into the goal)

Tigers: Shots: 3 (3) Corners: 1

25:42 Yang (Beautifully strikes the 30 yard deadball upper 90)
