Senior Night: PinkOut 2 (for the traveling trophy)

Game 12: (11-0-1)

26 April vs. St. James Academy, 1-1

Girls' Season Stats

EKL Standings

PinkOut 2 just might have been a preview of the 5A State Finals as we witnessed a very even match between us and St. James. We now basically sit tied in the EKL race with us holding the edge for the one seed in 5A.

Both teams generated very few quality opportunities to score, as it ended up around 3 a piece. The Watts' sisters scored one each to provide the final score.

Lindsey scored mid-first-half when she took a pass going forward that split two defenders before she juked our keeper and passed it into the goal. Sydney scored right out of the half-time break when Jane put a heavy cross to the mid-post area about 18 out. Sydney nicely settled it down and into a game-tying shot.

Sydney also came so close to a golden goal off a pass from Cabantac in the first overtime. (Check it out!) James seemed to always have a piece of her jersey in hand or were willing to take a yellow to keep her from scoring. They handled her pretty effectively, avoiding any critical foul calls.

The Saints also had Sandvig rip a ball off the top of the bar in the first half. James had a flick that Jensen's quick hands saved, and they also got an open look inside the box but drove it too wide.

James seemed to hold their shape quite well throughout the match as we did not possess against them as well as we have been all season against other teams.

Now, the Saints did seem to dominate both overtime periods, nearly pulling out a sudden victory.

It is always tough to play on senior night as it is quite an emotional experience. We had a beautifully coordinated ceremony before the match to recognize our 10 seniors and senior manager, Kennedy Croake.

Mara Loughman (despite her torn ACL) started the match, touching it to Sydney who lofted it out of bound so Mara good get off the field. That was pretty cool.

We also continued our fund-raising for our local cancer cause creating drawings for 6 great gifts. The raffle generated a few more hundred dollars. Mrs. Gregovich beautifully coordinated the event.

And, of course, Michele Gress was on hand to take hundreds of pictures to immortalize the event and HALO and St. James TV were both broadcasting the game to view live or later.

It was a big deal! And the match did not disappoint. The PinkOut trophy will, however, stay with us since the game ended in a tie.

The Saints will close out regular season, Tuesday at West, and back home Friday against Miege. Tuesday will be our only match on grass all year.
